The course was never the bottleneck
Ask around any Nigerian tech community and you will find people who have watched more automation content than most consultants have. They know what a webhook is. They can name four ways to trigger a workflow. And they still have not been paid for any of it.
The reason is boring: a client does not buy knowledge, they buy evidence. The first question on any discovery call is some version of show me something you built. A completion certificate is not an answer to that question. A working system is.
Three gaps, not one
When we mapped why capable people were stalling, the same three gaps showed up every time.
1. The proof gap
Tutorials end at the demo. Nobody hands you a messy brief, a deadline and a client who changes their mind halfway. So the portfolio never fills up, and without a portfolio there is nothing to price.
2. The isolation gap
Automation work fails in specific, unglamorous ways: an API that rate-limits, a WhatsApp template that gets rejected, a webhook that fires twice. Alone, each of those costs days. With twenty other builders in the room, most cost minutes.
3. The distribution gap
Even builders with real skill have no reliable way to meet the businesses that need automation. The work exists. Nigerian businesses are drowning in manual follow-ups, order updates and lead qualification. The two sides just never meet.
So we built a hub, not a course
Automate Naija has four layers, and the order matters: learn by shipping, build against real problems in the Automation Arena, collaborate with builders doing the same thing, and get opportunities from businesses that can see what you finished.
Each layer feeds the next. A challenge produces a portfolio piece. A portfolio piece qualifies you for an opportunity. An opportunity teaches you what to learn next. That loop is the product.
What we decided not to do
- No paywalled community. Getting unstuck fast is the difference between finishing and quitting, so the community layer is free.
- No fake certificates. The credential is the work. We would rather host your build than print your name on a PDF.
- No dollar pricing. Naira prices, local payment methods, and a level for people who are genuinely starting at zero.
Where we are now
